Feng Shui (风水), literally meaning “Wind and Water,” is an ancient Chinese practice that studies how the environment—natural and built—affects energy flow (Qi) and influences human well-being, fortune, and destiny. It involves the analysis of directions, landforms, spatial arrangement, and timing to harmonize people with their surroundings.
For Taoists, Feng Shui is a practical application of Daoist cosmology and metaphysics. It reflects the principle of living in harmony with nature (顺应自然), aligning human life with the energetic patterns of Heaven (), Earth (), and Humanity (). Feng Shui is used to optimize the flow of Qi in homes, workplaces, temples, and even gravesites to promote health, prosperity, spiritual cultivation, and ancestral blessing. It is seen as a sacred art rooted in the Dao, helping individuals live in balance with the universe.
