The I Ching (), also known as the Book of Changes, is one of the oldest and most influential Chinese classical texts. It is both a philosophical work and a divination system, composed of 64 hexagrams (each made of six broken or unbroken lines) that represent various patterns and situations in life. Each hexagram is associated with symbolic imagery, commentary, and guidance.

For Taoists, the I Ching is not just a method of fortune-telling—it is a profound cosmic map that reflects the natural order (Dao) and the principles of Yin and Yang, balance, and transformation. Taoists study the I Ching to better understand the ever-changing flow of life, cultivate inner harmony, make aligned decisions, and live in accordance with the Dao (the Way). It is considered a key text that bridges metaphysics, nature, human behaviour, and spiritual insight.
